Rare production of brachypterous queens in a social parasitic ant, Vollenhovia nipponica (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

Abstract:
For Vollenhovia nipponica, a social parasite of Vollenhovia emeryi, reproduction of brachypterous queens is reported. For ants in general, reproduction of brachypterous queens is considered a rare phenomenon.
